With the magnificent equestrian statue of Louis XIV at the centre of the square and the statue of the "Stone Watcher", a memorial to the Lyon Resistance, the Place Bellecour is steeped in history.
There are two pavilions on the square. The first houses the tourist office, while the second is home to the Rectangle, an art gallery with a wide range of exhibitions. There are also several flower stalls.
The recent creation of gardens, fountains and benches on the southern part of the square has provided a little bit of missing greenery to what was once a square of reddish-orange gravel.
During the traditional Festival of Lights, a Ferris wheel is installed to give you a great view of the city from a great height!
